Strategic Research Agenda

A key element of the ESI programme is the embedded systems research agenda. This agenda is developed in close cooperation with academia and industry, and incorporates the experience gained on the basis of recent industry-as-laboratory collaboration projects.

The research agenda is closely aligned with other research agendas relevant to this knowledge domain, such as national roadmapping activities within Point-One and the national IIP's. This also holds for international agendas such as Artemisia, FP7, the roadmap for Cyber Physical Systems (National Science Foundation (NSF), USA), and the National Roadmap 'Embedded Systems' (Zentralverband Elektrotechnik und Elektronik Industrie, Germany).

Key aspects of the research agenda concern system aspects and generic knowledge creation for embedded systems engineering as a mature, scientifically-based engineering discipline, in particular:

  • Embedded systems and systems-of-systems architecting
  • Model-driven system engineering
  • System-level control
  • Resource planning and scheduling
  • System test and integration
  • Technology platforms and re-use
