ESI 2.30 Master Class System Integration
ESI offers a four-day master class on System Integration. This master class gives a broad overview of
Integration strategies, processes, and methods. The purpose of ‘integration’ is
to validate the growing product realization against design, requirements and
expectations, with the intent to find any flaw at an earliest possible stage.
Integration and test are clearly separated. A successful product
innovation project requires explicit management of each of these development
stages. We often refer to the combination of both phases by the wording
“integration and test”. As a result explicit attention will be paid to the
relationship between the overall product creation process (i.e. the process from
product definition to product deployment) and the integration and test.
The target audience of this master class are designers, domain architects (e.g.
integration architects), and test managers with sufficient professional
background (experience of 5 years or more experience) in development for
embedded systems, and who are in need to understand test and integration aspects
on a system level, or are involved in system design trade-offs for test and
integration.
The course follows several interacting lines of reasoning.
-
The global process – how does integration and test fit in the total product creation process and what are the consequences in terms of integration & test architecture, communication, requirements tracing, product development processes, etc.
-
The detailed short-cyclic process - the short cyclic process of build, test, and repair.
-
Quality – the quality aspects of products and processes.
-
Managing the integration & test process – managing large scale projects with multi-site, subcontractors, and COTS aspects. Defining the various roles, responsibilities, and required skills with a focus on the role of system engineering and the test manager in integration and test.
-
Means, methods and techniques – how to build an integration & test environment.
This master class covers the following topics:
- Introduction and Positioning
An overview on integration and test is provided. Four relevant areas are
introduced: Business objectives, management, processes, competencies.
- Unit and System Integration
The need for both phases is explained and examples are provided. The need
for and consequences of early integration is explored.
- Integration and Test Architecture (1)
The integration growth process is reflected in an architectural view. How
and by whom is this architecture established and managed?
- Integration and Test Architecture (2)
A cookbook for establishing integration and test architecture and related
views is provided. A case on defining an integration plan is conducted.
- Defect Diagnosis
If a system or its components have defects the causes should
be diagnosed. Fault diagnosis methods are subject of this session.
- Integration and Test Management
What are the essential ingredients of an integration & test plan. Required
roles, competencies, infrastructure, and organization are explained.
- Integration, Test and Repair Process and Tooling
The build - integrate – test – repair process and the detect – analyze –
repair - update process are explained
- Personal action plan
How to improve system integration in my own company and what actions
should I take
